Amarenak is a story that began several years ago when Oihane Pardo inherited her grandmother’s old kaiku from her mother. The kaiku is a traditional jacket worn by Basque fishermen, and for Oihane it was also a way of taking her land and her family with her. When that kaiku got too old, she decided to design a new one from the original pattern of her grandmother’s. Amarenak was founded to continue recovering traditional Basque garments and objects, updating them and keeping that part of the culture alive, making #wearablestories.
