Audiovisual creation and digital art are at the centre of Beatriz Sánchez's career. Her artistic practice blends traditional media such as drawing and sculpture with video, digital tools, and live performances.

Experimentation and “mistakes” are integral to her work, characterised by free processes, improvisation, magic, humour, and a touch of disorder.

In 2025, Sánchez will begin her residency at Azkuna Zentroa as part of the Babestu programme with Domestic Kinetics Formulas, a project that keeps the focus on animation and the moving image whilst also returning to hands-on work, giving free rein to her imagination.

With “Fórmulas de Cinética Doméstica [3]” , the artist envisions transforming her workspace into an experimental research lab where she will develop a series of mechanised sculptural artifacts. “These moving parts consist of engines, mini video projections, everyday objects, and figures, combining to form dynamic assemblies that seem to come to life (automatons)”, explains the artist. They are “low-tech, decadent, and poetic artifacts that precariously balance various fragile elements in an awkward mechanical dance.”

The figures are crafted from ceramics, organic materials, waste, bioplastic textures, odds and ends, and random fragments. They draw inspiration from “unusual and timeless archaeological remains and technofossils, evoking - through fiction - the end of a civilisation similar to ours, blurred through processes of ‘conscious erosion’”.

As considered by Beatriz Sánchez, “Having the opportunity to develop an artistic project in the city where I live has now become essential for me both to engage with the artistic community of Azkuna Zentroa and to collaborate with local artists with whom I have previously worked.”

At the end of her residency, this experimental research laboratory will be opened to the public with an informative talk in which Sánchez will share insights into the creative process and activated artifacts
