As an Associate Artist at Azkuna Zentroa-Alhóndiga Bilbao, Amaia Molinet is framing the "Tierra Quemada" [Scorched Earth] project as a healing eye over places within the natural landscape of the local area that have suffered some kind of harm or violence that has not been repaired.
At the point where art, archaeology and magic intersect, Scorched Earth is conceived as a subjective interpretation of the Biscay Iron Belt, a line of fortifications built during the Spanish Civil War to protect Bilbao, which was overrun and then forgotten for decades.
In 2024 the project takes the form of research and fieldwork, conducting various routes around the Iron Belt and including collaborations with specialists from different areas: Josu Santamarina (history and archaeology), Ilazki de Portuondo (art, magic and the occult), and Eriz Moreno (art, maps, and graphic design). The results have given rise to a publication bearing the same name as the project, available at dendAZ.
